Your feet contain approximately 25% of all the bones in your body, along with dozens of joints, muscles, and ligaments. They support your weight, keep you balanced, and absorb shock with every step. Neglecting your feet can lead to pain, infections, mobility issues, and more serious complications especially for people with chronic conditions like Diabetes. The Central Jersey Medical Center Encourages You to Follow Simple Daily Footcare Tips Wash and Dry Thoroughly Always wash your feet with soap and water, and make sure to dry between the toes to prevent fungal infections like athlete’s foot. Trim Toenails the Correct Way Cut nails straight across to avoid ingrown toenails. Don’t cut them too short, and avoid digging into the corners. Central Jersey Medical Center’s Podiatry Services can help with that. Choose the Right Shoes Look for shoes that provide arch support, cushioning, and enough room to wiggle your toes. Socks Matter Too Wear clean, breathable socks preferably made from cotton or moisture-wicking materials. If your feet sweat a lot, consider changing socks during the day. Footcare for Special Situations For Athletes: Pay attention to proper footwear and hygiene to avoid blisters and fungal infections. For People with Diabetes: Daily inspection is crucial. Even small injuries can turn into serious complications without proper care. For Seniors: Regular foot exams with Central Jersey Medical Center’s Podiatry Services, and wearing comfortable, supportive shoes that can prevent falls and promote mobility. Don’t Wait for Pain to Start. Feet often go unnoticed until they hurt. But by then, damage may already be done. Regular footcare is an act of proactive wellness. Inspect Your Feet Regularly. Look for any cuts, blisters, redness, swelling, or changes in skin or nail color. If you notice anything unusual that doesn’t go away, contact the Central Jersey Medical Center for a Podiatry Services appointment.

The Central Jersey Medical Center and The Central Jersey Dental Center recognize that minority communities continue to face significant health disparities that aren’t just numbers on a page they’re real life experiences shaped by systemic issues, socioeconomic barriers, and cultural divides. The CJMC continues to shine a light on these challenges and strives to create more equitable healthcare for our communities. Health Disparities within our Communities Minority populations including African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian Americans experience higher rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and certain cancers. Mental health issues are also prevalent but often go untreated due to stigma, lack of access, or cultural barriers; something that the Central Jersey Medical Center works tirelessly to address. African Americans are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes and the Central Jersey Medical Center’s Endocrinology services are an excellent resource. Hispanic/Latino populations often face higher rates of obesity and are less likely to have health insurance. The Central Jersey Medical Center can assist those with little or no insurance, and they accept both Medicare and Medicaid. Culture Matters Cultural beliefs can influence how individuals perceive illness, when they seek care, and how they interact with healthcare professionals. A one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare often fails to meet the needs of our diverse populations. That’s why culturally competent care at the Central Jersey Medical Center where providers understand and respect patients’ backgrounds is so critical. With locations in Perth Amboy, Carteret, and Newark, the Central Jersey Medical Center and Central Jersey Dental Center provide ever-expanding healthcare resources within the community.

The Central Jersey Medical Center recently held a press conference with state and local officials to recognize that mental health challenges among young people in Perth Amboy and surrounding areas have surged, yet access to quality care remains limited for various reasons. From academic pressures to social media influences and economic uncertainty, today’s youth are facing unprecedented stressors. Through their mental health services, the Central Jersey Medical Center provides accessible, affordable, and effective mental healthcare for young people, which has never been more urgent. The Growing Mental Health Crisis According to the CDC, the rate of anxiety and depression among adolescents has risen dramatically over the past decade. Suicide is now a leading cause of death among young people, and many struggle in silence due to stigma or lack of resources. The COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated these issues, leaving many youth isolated and without support. Barriers to Mental Healthcare Despite the growing need for mental healthcare, young people face numerous barriers to receiving mental health support, including: Stigma and Shame – Many young people fear being judged for seeking help, leading them to suppress their struggles rather than address them. Lack of Access – Many communities, particularly in underserved urban areas such as Perth Amboy and surrounding communities, lack mental health professionals who specialize in youth care. The Central Jersey Medical Center’s mental health services are available in their Perth Amboy center. Financial Constraints – Mental healthcare can be expensive, and many families cannot afford it, especially if it is not covered by insurance. This is why the Central Jersey Medical Center accepts most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid. Patients without insurance may be eligible for care on a sliding scale. School and Parental Support Gaps – Schools often lack adequate mental health resources, and some parents may not recognize the importance of professional care. The Central Jersey Medical Center’s mental health services are a valuable resource for parents and guardians. Why Investing in Youth Mental Health Matters Mental health affects all aspects of a young person’s life, including their academic performance, relationships, and future opportunities. The Central Jersey Medical Center advises that untreated mental health conditions can lead to poor school outcomes, substance abuse, and an increased risk of self-harm. Investing in early intervention and comprehensive care can prevent long-term struggles and improve overall wellbeing. If you or someone you know is in need of mental health services, the Central Jersey Medical Center is here to help. Dr. Cynthia Vuittonet, Chief Medical Officer and her staff are dedicated to providing critical mental healthcare services for youth from infancy through age 17.
